Fruit and vegetable supplement: It is not about quantity but variety!
There are two researches that have depicted the fact that diet is the life line when it comes to health and illness.
A research conducted by Puerto Rico and others in Spain displayed the fact that what matters is the variety rather than the quantity of natural foods that one consumes. Notably, many health organizations will encourage one to consume five servings of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis while some even advocate for an increase in the amount. However, this recommendations are founded on the value of the nutrients keeping in mind the recommended daily intake.
The controversy that arises is based on the fact that if the five servings of fruits and vegetables are adequate then of why do doctors advocate for one to increase this quantity? This recommendation does not have any scientific support and is purely based on instincts.
The Puerto Rico research was actually published in the American Journal of clinical nutrition on 10th November 2010. The study looked in to the diet trends and the risks of coronary heart ailment of a total of one thousand two hundred middle aged men . The study took a ten year period.
The conclusions of the study depicted that the risk of coronary heart ailment was reduced by the variety of the vegetables and fruits and not by the quantity.
Just to add on, there was a Spanish research that was published in the Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention magazine in September of 2010. This study concentrated on the male smokers and the risk of lung cancer. The research drew conclusions that a male who smoked and ate eight and above different types of fruits and vegetables lowered his or her chances of getting lung cancer by 23%. The risk actually would go down by 4% for any extra unit increased on the diet directly from a different sub group.
This two studies simply emphasis on the need for one to take fruit and vegetable supplements. These natural supplements have got a wide variety of nutrients. The more the variety the better for the person. Natural health products are important and should be given the respect they deserve.
